Middle Eastern Bands You Probably Haven’t Heard (Yet)

An area best known for political conflicts and previous uprisings, the Middle East isn’t your regular spot to expect instrumental/post-rock music from. But regardless of all the heat and lack of support there, many young musicians managed to overcome a lot of cultural and financial barriers -and even benefit from their surrounding- to come up with some unique music experiences.

Here is a list with some of the Middle Eastern bands you should give a listen.

While this list is by no means exhaustive, it will hopefully help you discover some new tunes to enjoy. Take a listen below and feel free to comment with your own suggestions.

  • Nice list, but i don’t know why El Morabba3 are always included in Middle East post-rock lists when they sound just like Cairokee or any other pop rock indie band. There are a couple of other bands on this list that don’t fit the category either – just because they claim to be post-rock doesn’t make it so. I wish people compiling these lists would actually listen to the bands and determine for themselves rather than just going by whatever tags the band uses online to gain more attention.

Other unmentioned notable post-rock artists are:

    The Anatomy Of Melancholy (Iran)
    Aziz Benchihab (Morocco)
    Object Obscure (Egypt)
    Fadi Tabbal (Lebanon)

    • Fadi tabbal is more experimental ambient/feild recordings and not post rock altho i love them… and yes al morabba3 are more indie pop but do draw alot from post in instrumentation.
