Arctic Drones’ 50 Favourite Albums of 2014

Here it is! The eagerly anticipated list. By us if no-one else. We’ve been blessed, blown away and buried by beautiful music this year and now we simply want to share a few of our favourites with you. Arctic Drones is a small, independent website that is run by people who love music, thrill to discover music and enjoy passing on the discoveries. This makes life better for smaller, independent bands and listeners hungry for that new thrill. Our goal is to help the music lover discover new and good music, and help bands that have difficulty in reaching out to new listeners.

So what’s in this list then? Well, sure, there’ll be some stuff you haven’t heard of and there’ll be some that you have. If we liked it, it had a chance to be on this list. “But there are no numbers!” I hear you say. Quite correct. This list is also in alphabetical order. That’s because, as much as possible, we don’t want to declare that one album is arbitrarily 10 points or whatever better than another. Instead, we’ve all written down our favourite releases, brought them together and removed any crossovers. And as we are a diverse bunch of people, so our list is diverse. Although there may be a little bias towards certain genres because of our shared interests, you’ll still hear see/hear some stellar albums from a wide variety of music. And yes, due to the small number of staff, the huge amount of releases and a reasonably sensible cap of 50 names, it’s possible that your favourite album didn’t make it to this list. It doesn’t mean it wasn’t great. Why don’t you leave us a comment. Share your love, just like we do.

Enjoy Arctic Drones’ Favourite Releases, 2014. Hopefully you’ll hear something new or be reminded of something from earlier in the year. And please, if you want to be in with a chance to be on this list next year, write to us! Shout about your release and let us pass on the word so the echoes of great music never fade.

  • Some amazing picks in here. I’ve lost count of the number of these lists I’ve read from other publications, all featuring the same albums – but AD really nailed a few obscure yet lovely recommendations. The Soil And The Sun & Tatran are two artists that I really liked and hadn’t come across anywhere else. Tired Tape Machine was very beautiful as well.

    Thanks!
