Atsuko Chiba, an experimental collective from Montreal, Canada, successfully incorporates a range of musical influences and styles to create an exciting and unique sound.  It is a good time to get to know them better as the band has recently been teasing their listeners by posting videos of a live studio session and getting ready to start their U.S. and Canadian tour. How did you guys come up with the band name?

In 2011 some of us were students of Concordia universities’ electroacoustic studies program. Taking part in annual live performances was a fun way of getting involved while making some noise. We were asked to submit a name for the purpose of the event flyer. Atsuko Chiba came from a brainstorming session and was weird enough to stick around.

What and who were your musical influences growing up? And how about today?

Being 5 members, naturally our musical influences while growing up range from Pantera to Bootsy Collins to Pink Floyd.

While today our influences still vary just as much, we enjoy listening to: The Mars Volta, Russian Circles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, At the Drive-in, Zechs Marquise, Toe, Tera Melos, St. Vincent, Warpaint, The Physics House Band, Flying Lotus, Frank Zappa, Animals as Leaders, Godspeed You! Black Emperor… The list goes on… and on… and on.

What does the future hold in store for you? Any upcoming tour plans?

Spring 2015 will hold our first ever tour of the United States of America. We plan on playing 23 shows all along the east coast. Dates and locations listed on our Facebook page.

We also plan on releasing our follow up to Jinn late 2015.
