A SUDDEN BURST OF COLOURThere’s always been something airy and bright about A Sudden Burst of Colour’s particular distillation of ambient and post-rock stylings. Far from the slow-burn, solemn hypnotism of Scotland’s post-rock lineage, the 4-piece Motherwell outfit very much have their own take on the (albeit very loose) genre. Projecting sun-blushed, shimmering orchestrations, there’s a definite atmosphere to their music; one of heady far-flung sunset landscapes, a blissful serenity translated through the busily syncopated guitar and bass melodies and intertwining dance rhythms.
Following on from well-received double A-side ‘Yume/Let Go Or Be Dragged’ and debut EP ‘Reborn’, their new offering, recorded and produced entirely by the band themselves (mixed and mastered by Chris Graham, Ohio) sees the band employ a considered and mature songwriting sense to their varied progressive musical influences.
Here’s what ASBOC had to say about the new record:
“Waves Will Rise on Silent Water was originally planned for release in July of 2014; with a summer release date in mind the songs naturally took on a brighter and cleaner sound, unlike our debut release which was inspired by a heavier style of song writing. This release was conceived from a more diverse range of musical influences which led to experimentation with styles which were less familiar to us.”
