I’m not actually sure if it was prophesized that Arcade Messiah would return and bring glory upon the faithful and the patient, but what is surely true is that this third coming is now imminent. We at Arctic Drones magazine have the privilege of premiering one of the most massive and mind-bending tracks I’ve heard all year – the 10+ minute epic “Deliverance”.
The track sets an evocative mood right from the start. A slowly building, rich wall of sound welcomes the listener to a vast space, as though a space capsule were revolving patiently, allowing the awesome sight of a planet to enter the field of vision of the people inside. The track unfurls ever further, presenting more and more jagged edges and breakdowns, displaying a truly exciting dynamic range. The music seems designed to play with your pulse, quickening and subsiding over and over in such an organic way, it blurs the lines between your own body’s rhythms and those of the spinning, circular guitar lines.
So many layers and textures eventually enter the fray, that it doesn’t take long for “Deliverance” to become a swirling force of nature, every bit as emotional and transcendent as the name suggests.
Arcade Messiah’s third album, simply titled “III”, will be released on the 25th of November and preorder for the album is now live on the artist’s Bandcamp page. If this track is any indication – and I strongly suspect it is – it will easily be one of the best instrumental releases of 2016.
