Belgian instrumental post-rock/metal band All We Expected will release their debut album Hatàr via dunk!records on December 8th.
The track “Abano,” which is an intense and powerful opening to the album, is premiering exclusively on Arctic Drones today and can be heard below.
Earlier this year, Izegem, Belgium’s All We Expected forced opened a lot of sleepy eyes when they kicked off the main stage of the dunk!festival on Day 2. For listeners who bemoan the death of riffs in the realms of “post-“ (rock, metal, etc.), All We Expected proved to be a welcome punch in the ear.
Though they are a relatively new band about to release their debut full-length, they do not come without a modicum of prior acclaim. Listeners and readers who have been following the year-end polls of the Post-rock Facebook page may recall that their split EP with Raum Kingdom made it onto the Top 50 of 2015 Listeners’ Choice list, so it is clear that the upcoming Hatàr (releasing on vinyl via dunk!records on December 8th) has some anticipation attached to it. Today we are happy to premiere the first single from the album, entitled “Abano.”
“Abano” is the opening track from Hatàr, kicking the album off in powerful fashion with pulsing drums that mimic the lead riff, underscored nicely by some atmospheric guitar melodies. Where many bands will favor the creation of soundscapes with these additional layers of guitar, All We Expected remains more focused on the immediacy of their metal leanings. While there are some effectively subdued moments during the transition from the track’s weighty opening to its more melodic but no less crushing finale, “Abano” is not a song that is concerned with dialing back the volume.
Having heard the album in its entirety, I will say that if listeners find themselves enjoying this track, Hatàr continues to get better as it burns on, making its imminent release something to strongly anticipate. Riff enthusiasts, consider yourselves put on alert.
Hatàr will be released December 8th, 2017 on vinyl, CD, and digital. Vinyl pre-orders are now live through dunk!records: dunkrecords.com/products/all-we-expected-hatar-lp
